With the holiday season coming up, I wanted to create an event where people could jump into the season of giving to their community. A few months ago we were approached by Habitat for Humanity asking if we could donate some of our work to their Restores. Sadly the pieces they were inquiring about at the time already had buyers, but their request has stayed on my mind. I wanted to create an event allowing the DIY world to give to this fantastic program and other similar ones such as Salvation Army, Goodwill, D.I. etc.
It's called it Habitat Heros.
Here are some details and more will be announced on the 20th!
You are all invited to participate in a special link party where you can link up a piece of furniture you have restored and then donate this furniture to a charity of your choice such as Goodwill, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity Restores, local church groups, etc.
Link Party Name: Habitat Heros
Dates: October 20 through November 20
Host Blogs: Cassie from Primitive and Proper, Jacqueline from Simple Home Life, Julia from 551 East Furniture Design, Katie from Wildwood Creek. The link party will connect through all four host blogs.
Link party participants will:
1. Link up a piece of furniture that you have restored.
2. Donate this piece of furniture to a charity of your choice.
3. Follow one or all of the host blogs to ensure that you receive updates.
4. Post the Habitat Heros link party button on your sidebar.
Link party hosts will:
Choose one project each week and feature the creator's project and blog.On November 21 all entries will be entered into a giveaway, which will include a prize from each host.
This is a great chance to give to those in need and even give back to the stores that have given us so much. How many of us have purchased pieces from the above places only to paint and turn around and sell for profit? I know that is part of the business, and this is a great chance to turn around a piece of furniture and donate it.
These are some pieces I've done that originally came from Goodwill.
I'm so excited to restore a piece and donate it to them! Can you imagine how awesome it would be if you walked in, saw a beautiful piece that you could afford for your home?! I predict it you would have a huge smile on your face. :)
I know that refinishing a piece is hard work and many of us out there are trying to make a living off of our work. With that said, I understand that this is asking a sacrifice of people, especially with the economy etc, but I truly feel that with everyones help in this we could bless so many families lives!!
Everyone deserves a beautiful and safe home and I know we could help people through this. :)
