2014 Kitchen Trends to Kick Start Remodeling Ideas

While transitional styles are still number one, we see kitchen design trending more contemporary this year, with clean, simple lines; less clutter, and little ornamentation,” said John Petrie, CMKBD, and 2014 NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association) President.

The outlook is based the findings of the NKBA 2014 Kitchen and Bath Design Trends Survey, which also revealed these great new trends in kitchen design:

Contemporary styling is followed by transitional with shaker styling in 3rd place due to its versatility, meaning it can lean either contemporary or

transitional.Accessible and/or universal design with easy-maintenance features in the kitchen continues to grow.Docking or charging stations in the kitchen and home office are powering up as are TV’s in each space.Energy-saving appliances continue to be on the ”must. have” list.Furniture-type pieces are popping up on the “must have” list as well. That could include an armoire-style cabinet, hiding your refrigerator with

cabinetry, book-shelf and open cabinetry and even a mantel top range hood.Wood floors are still the most requested flooring option.

Quartz and other recycled materials are the “it” product for counter tops while glass remains the back splash of choice.Satin-nickle and polished chrome are the favorites for faucets. Many NKBA designers mentioned having to incorporate features to accommodate pets including day beds and feeding stations.

SO, if you’re looking to remodel your kitchen with an eye on resale, these are some great ideas to keep in mind. Remodeling expert Jan Lehman of Standale Interiors, always cautions about “over” remodeling for your neighborhood/price range and a kitchen remodel is certainly no exception.
